The adoption of generative AI has been unprecedented; in early 2023, the adoption of GPT by the general population reached one million users in 1/15th of the time it took its closest comparison, Instagram. The only thing keeping pace are the literal thousands of new generative AI providers and product offerings currently in the market (and that list grows every day). With such an expansive list of options, how does one even begin to identify and select a reliable and trustworthy provider? Our process of vetting and selecting a reputable provider that met the high standards required to deliver on our commitments to our users came down to five key elements. These nonnegotiables are: (1) privacy by design, (2) enterprise-grade security, (3) users control their data, (4) safety and fairness embedded in the product, and (5) adherence to legal and regulatory requirements. At Grammarly, the core theme underpinning each of the decision drivers was user trust and safety. By keeping your end-user in mind, and committing to protecting them and their data, you can immediately weed out a lot of the noise in the market. The market today is flooded with new players, some of whom don’t have the maturity you need to ensure that you can deliver a secure generative AI product experience. We made it our top priority to select a partner who met these needs, and here is how you can do the same.
